Adventure Travel during Festivals in Nepal Add New Insights

Nepal has a number of festivals both Hindu and Buddhist that you are sure to enjoy during your adventure travel to the lovely Himalayan country. Adventure travel to any place does not mean just sightseeing or participating in adventure sports but also learning about the ethnic culture and way of life. Nepal has numerous tribes who lead very different lives from what one can observe anywhere else. A very popular festival and quite unique to Nepal is the "Gai Jatra", or the procession of cows, celebrated in the Nepalese month of Bhadra that falls some time around August and September. The festival like most in the country is associated with mythology and the current form is a happy blend of modernity and medievalism.

Nepal: Walking the Silent Path

In all of Nepal, Mount Kailash has been identified as one of the three most sacred places on Earth. Located in western Tibet, pilgrims have traveled here for nearly 15,000 years, believing their karma will be greatly enhanced by walking or crawling around the 52-kilometer perimeter of the mountain. Seeing holy visions is also not uncommon. This pilgrimage -- also referred to as a kora -- takes place in altitudes as high as 5,600 meters (over 18,000 feet).

Nepal, Kingdom on the Roof of the World

Nepal is a small but populous country of approximately 28 million located in the northern portion of the Indian subcontinent between India and China. Its capital is Kathmandu, which has a population of 800,000. Nepal is a land of many climates and varied topography, ranging from humid lowland plains in the south bordering India to the icy reaches of the Himalayan Mountains. Eight of the world's ten tallest mountains are in Nepal, including the tallest of all, Mount Everest. Nepal's renowned Sherpa mountain guides are essential when doing any serious mountain climbing in the upper Himalayas. The most famous of the Sherpas was Tenzing Norgay, who accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary on the first successful climb to Everest's summit in 1953.
