Three Sisters Making the World a Better Place

Motivated by stories of frustration from female adventurers who want to explore the beauty of Nepal, but feel restricted because of their gender, three enterprising sisters decided to rise to the challenge of establishing an adventure trekking company that would be run by women, for women. In the early 1990s, when the sisters’ plans started to take shape, it was unheard of for a Nepalese woman to guide a trek, and certainly a female-run trekking company was considered beyond impossible – but not for the Chhetri sisters, Lucky, Dicky and Nicky.

Tourism to Combat Global Warming

With World Tourism Day fast approaching, Nepal officials have come up with a rather unique way of combating global warming. They plan to institute a law that requires that all tourists entering Nepal will have to either plant a tree or sponsor one. This will go a long way reducing the carbon footprint left by these tourists when they are visiting the country.

Ilam – Queen of Hills

Situated around 600 kilometers from Kathmandu in the east of Nepal, the hilly district of Ilam, sometimes referred to as “Queen of Hills”, is renowned for its awe-inspiring scenery and for the high quality of the tea grown there, which is exported to many destinations in the world. As home to the Red Panda, Ilam attracts researchers who are interested in the conservation of this beautiful endangered animal as well as the many rare birds in the area. With its Devi temples, Ilam also has great religious significance with many pilgrims visiting the area each year.

The Enriching Experience of Village Tourism

Village Tourism in Nepal was created and researched by Dr. Surendra Bhakta Pradhanang, who is well known in the tourism industry and is also the Chairman of the Kathmandu Research Centre. His efforts to expand tourism in Nepal and to bring an income to small villages through the tourism industry motivated him to research the possibility of Village Tourism, which is now offered by many tour operators in the country. Dr. Pradhanang’s commitment to improving the lives of villagers and boosting the overall economy of the country has been invaluable to tourism and to Nepal.

Climbers Welcome Reduction in Off-Season Climbing Fees

Nepal is a beautiful and fascinating country that is very popular with mountaineers aspiring to conquer some of the majestic mountains that make this country unique. In an effort to encourage mountain climbing enthusiasts to visit Nepal during off-peak seasons, Tourism Ministry authorities have reduced mountain climbing fees for all 326 mountain peaks open to climbers, including eight of the world’s fourteen peaks that are above 8,000 meters.
