Description:
Taking place on April 1 in 2012, Rama Navami is a celebration of the birth of Hindu god Lord Rama, who was an incarnation of Vishnu and the hero of the Sanskrit epic of Ramayana. Prior to the celebration, a continuous recital of Ramayana takes place, culminating in the highlights of the story being read in the temple as part of the celebratory rituals.
Rituals associated with Rama Navami include decorating private homes, offering fruit and flowers on the family shrine and the reciting of prayers, with the youngest female member of the household applying a red tilak to all the other members of the family. The festival focuses on moral reflection and include generosity to others less fortunate.
