Description:

Ghode Jatra (the Horse Racing Day) includes a grand horse parade at Tundikhel - a large green field which flanks the entire side of the old city in Kathmandu. The celebratio nof Ghode Jatra is linked with a legend in which a demon living in this area terrorized the inhabitants of Kathmandu. When the demon died, the townsfolk mounted their horses and rode over his body repeatedly, celebrating their freedom from his tyranny.

Today Ghode Jatra is a grand event, including horse races, where the speed of the running horses is considered to bring good fortune to the Nepalese people.
