UML takes ‘symbolic action’ against party’s Janajati leaders; removes them from key posts

CPN (UML) has removed the party’s Janajati leaders from various responsibilities they had been fulfilling inside the party to punish them for standing in favor of identity-based federalism and revival of Constituent Assembly by going against the decision of the party.

The meeting of the party’s Standing Committee Wednesday had concluded that clarification sought by the party’s disciplinary committee from the Janajati leaders regarding their defiance to party’s decision was right and simultaneously removed UML vice-chairman Ashok Rai and other disgruntled Janajati leaders from various responsibilities.

It is learnt that vice-chairman Rai has been removed from his post of in charge of party’s organizational department and replaced by party secretary Shankar Pokharel. UML leader Prithivi Subba Gurung has lost the post of in charge of Loktantric Janajati Mahasangh of the party and has been replaced by Raghuvir Mahaseth. Similarly, Bijay Subba has been replaced by Pradip Nepal as in charge of Rastriya Janasanskritik Mahasangh while Gokarna Bista will now head the party’s Intellectual Department instead of Rakam Chemjong. Kiran Gurung has been replaced by Urmila Aryal in the party’s Inclusive Department while Krishna Gopal Shrestha is the new Kathmandu Valley Incharge as UML has removed Rajendra Shrestha from the post.

Top UML leaders say that this is a symbolic action taken against the disgruntled Janajati leaders to send a clear message that they cannot defy party orders.

A large section of Janajati and Madhesi leaders of the UML party have been strongly demanding revival of CA and identity-based federalism at a time when the party has decided to go for fresh mandate.
