New Jalpaiguri Train Station in Nepal
The New Jalpaiguri Railway Station was first opened in 1964 and became the main station in that area. New Jalpaiguri is 314 feet above sea level and has two broad gauge lines - a narrow gauge line and a one-meter gauge line. In the future New Jalpaiguri Station will increase the number of gauge lines it has by adding another broad-gauge line and another narrow-gauge line.
Anyone wanting to book a ticket must go to the booking office located on Bidhan Road at Siliguri. You can also phone the booking office to make reservations. The booking office opens at 08:00 am and closes at 20:00 pm every day, except Sundays where it is open from 08:00 am to 14:00 pm.
The New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is where trains running on the broad-gauge lines will stop and collect passengers or pass by. Trains that pass through the New Jalpaiguri station come from towns and cities like Calcutta, Mughai Sarai, Delhi, Patna and Guwahati.
One of the trains that stops off at the New Jalpaigure Railway Station is the Darjeeling Mail. The Mail train starts its journey from Calcutta at the Sealdah Station at 19:00 pm and arrives twelve hours later at New Jalpaiguri. Other trains that pass and use the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the Calcutta Kamrup Express # 5960, the Kanchanjunga Express # 5658, Patna North East Express # 5621, Guwahati Rajdhani Express # 2436, the North East Express # 5621 and the Delhi Rajdhani Express #2423.
Passengers wanting to travel on one of the toy trains will get on and depart from the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station for their nine hour trip. It is best to leave from New Jalpaiguri because you are able to choose your seat as no reserving of seats are allowed. During high season, from May to July, the toy trains will leave New Jalpaiguri Station at 07:15 am and at 09:00 am.
Once the toy train leaves New Jalpaiguri they next stop at Siliguri Junction railway, which was built in 1949. Toy trains are the only ones that use this railway junction. From Siliguri Junction railway the train leaves and heads to the town of Darjeeling where they stop over before leaving again. The next stop is Kurseong, a small hill station situated in the hills of Darjeeling, which is four hours away from their previous stops.
