Recognized for bringing progress to the remote mountains, Pun brought to use a mix of solar power, tree based relay system in the absence of proper towers and made possible what had seemed unattainable in the eyes of everyone else. Today, with the established wireless technology, new options have opened in the remote mountains. For instance, farmers now can connect to global advanced farming technologies; and children can access the advantage of distance learning; now his village is connected with the global village. In recognition of his innovative venture he has been the recipient of quite a few awards/fellowship and doctorate honorary degree. He was awarded the Magsaysay Award (2007), considered by some as the Nobel Prize of Asia. The University of Nebraska, the educational institution he graduated from, awarded him an honorary degree (2007), Doctor of Humane Letters. Global Ideas Bank (2004) also awarded him with its 'Overall Social Innovation Award' and the Ashoka Foundation, the global association of leading social entrepreneurs, awarded him with Ashoka Fellowship (2002).
