The Embassy of Nepal in Paris organized a Vijaya Dashami 2069 BS festival celebration last night, Sunday, 28 October 2012 at the Maison Alfort. Present on the occasion were Presidents of Everest Association of Nepal, NRN, France, Nepali Ekata Samaj, Secretary of Maison Culture du Nepal, Officials of Tamu Samaj and Pakofen, long term residents, painter, UNESCO Professional, Businessmen, Travel agents, Nepali nationals married to French nationals and other guests from different walks of life. Likewise, Nepali students pursuing higher education in French Universities and foreign students also participated in the program with enthusiasm. About 350 guests attended the function. Ambassador of Nepal to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO His Excellency Mr. Mohan Krishna Shrestha initiated the Pooja and offered "Tika and Jamara" and Madame Sajana Shrestha offered "Prasad" to the guests. Delivering his welcome remarks, Ambassador Shrestha said that Embassy is pleased to organize the program to exchange greeting and to wish for good health, happiness and prosperity. Ambassador Shrestha said that naturally beautiful Nepal is like a garden composed of multi-ethnic, multi- cultural and multi-linguistic people and they harbor unity amidst diversity in many areas. To live and let live in co-existence is the hall mark of the Nepalese people and their warm hospitality is well known. Teej is an annual festival of Nepali women. The festival is celebrated with utmost dedication and love by the women in Nepal. Fabric stores, sarees and suit outlets are stocked with the bridal red colour fabric. Teej festival celebrations are carried further with feasts and traditional performances. On this day, women dress up beautifully. They clad themselves in red colored apparels, wear glass bangles, heavy ornaments and apply henna. Teej gives women an opportunity to dress like the newly wed. They worship the epitome of divine marriage - Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, for longevity and prosperity for their husband and family.

Nepal ownes many festivals which differs within the ethnic groups.Nepal consists 61 ethnic group.and Nepal's colourfull holidays and festivals occurs virtually year round and visit to Nepal is almost certain to coincide with atleast one,Certain times of yerar,particularly August and September towards theend of the monsoon,are packed with festivals.hey go a long way towards compensating for the less-than-ideal weather at that time of the year.Dashain is the most important of all Nepalease celebrations,in terms of impact,perhaps most closely approximated by Christian and new year in the west.Dashain is the most pleasant post-moonsoon period when sky is clearest,the air is cleanest and the rice is ready to harvesting is also the time for Nepal's biggest annual festival.and feativals lasts for 15 days,finishing on the full moon day of late September or early October,and there are number of important days right through the festival.Dashain is known as durgapuja since the festival celebrates the victory of the godess durga over the forces of evil in the guise of the buffalo demon Mahisasura,since durga is bloodthirsty godess.the festival is marked by wholesale bloodletting and features the biggest animal sacrifice of the year. The 10th day of festival,vijayadashami,is again a family affair as cards and greetings are exchanged,family visits are made and parents place a red tika mark on their children's foreheads .
