Welcome to Ligligkot Gorkha [07:04]
During our (Dr. Bal Krishna and Radha Sharma's) visit to Gorkha Nepal in November 2011 from America, we walked up to see the beautiful scenery from Ligligkot, a historical hilltop (about 4500 ft above sea level) where Ghale kings ruled and lived a long time ago. During the ancient times (Nepalese history explains) the local tradition for selecting the king was based on how fast someone could run up the hill and sit on the king's throne. A shrewd prince named Drabya Shah from a adjoining kingdom cheated Ghale community by starting to run from the middle of the hill and sat on the throne before others reached the peak. Shah dynasty's rule in Nepal started from that time (and they ruled Nepal for 14 generations) and his grandson (Prithvi Narayan Shah who was also a King but got the throne by birth) united many such small kingdoms to create a country we call Nepal today. To our surprise, during our visit on that beautiful Nov morning in 2011, some local people had gathered to welcome us to the place with flower garlands and had organized a welcoming musical event. The instruments they played is called "Naumati Baja" or "Panchai Baja" in Nepali. They played music and showed local dance to us and we also participated in the dance with the locals. It was such a beautiful moment the memory of which will last for life in our minds. Accompanying us on that November morning in 2011 were Dr. Bishnu and Indira Bhandari from Bandipur and Army Major Arjun Basnet and our childhood friend ...

A trip to Rasuwa [13:05]
On 16th October Stephen and I (Macartan) traveled to the area of Rasuwa, 10 hours north of Kathmandu, in Nepal. The main objective of the trip was for Stephen to visit most of the children that Umbrella had reintegrated with their families and communities in April of this year, before he returns to live in Ireland after 3 years working with The Umbrella Foundation in Nepal. It also gave me an opportunity to visit the schools in the areas and discover this beautiful area so that Umbrella could send teaching volunteers to the area in the near future. Over the course of our week in Rasuwa we biked and trekked a lot! However, the huge effort was defiantly worth it, as it enabled us to visit these kids in their natural home environments, where they belong. A trip to remember.

Gorkha view @ Morning [01:07]
Gorkha, situated at 140km west of Kathmandu at an altitude of 1135 meter, is the ancestral hometown of the Nepal's ruling royal family. Gorkha is only 18 km up a paved road of the Pokhara-Kathmandu Highway. Gorkha's small town is perhaps the most important historical town of Nepal. From its hilltop fortess, King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the ninth generation paternal ancestor of the present King, launched his lifelong attempt to unify the independent states of Nepa. Gorkha's centerpiece is the magnificent Gorkha Durbar with a fort, a palace and a temple with excellent views of the surrounding valleys, and the Mansalu range. गोरखा जिल्ला पश्चिमान्चल विकास क्षॆत्र अन्तर्गत पर्ने गण्डकी अन्चलको उत्तर पुर्वी सिमानामा अवस्थित छ।
