Critical Care Nursing Class at Bharatpur Nepal July 2011 [01:04]
It was hot, of course. and - rainy. the temp was 104 degrees and we soldiered on, until finally we changed the venue to a place that was air-conditioned. The stduent sin the class consisted of the department managers and the faculty of the School of Nursing in Bharatpur, carefully chosen so they will be able to have sharp assessment skills and also to pass these along to the stduents and staff. I liked this hospital, a lot. They are interested to have foreign medical personnel volunteer there.

"Purano Medical College" in Bharatpur, Nepal. This town is at the crossroads of the east-west highway and the Prthvi Highway from Kathmandu, and is the gateway to the Terai and to Chitwan. I was honored to have taught a three-day version of the critical care course to nurses from there. I thought the hospital administration was very forward-thinking and on the ball......

Born-Again Buddhism at Sangkhu Nepal Ugratara Mandir [02:45]
Stick with this one during the dark part at the beginning, you will be rewarded, I promise. Sangkhu is a village in the northeast part of Kathmandu Valley, a fine little Newari town, out-of-the-way from the rest of the world, but one which has many wonderful traditions. At Sangkhu there is a small cave carved from the solid rock. Many legends are associated with this cave. "If you are holy enough, you will be able to enter and leave the cave, even if the door is locked" Naturally, deep symbolism about birth, here.

Bahal courtyard near ason tole [00:26]
Just off Ason Tole in Kathmandu. One of the amazing things about urban design in Nepal is the "Bahal" which is a sort of neighborhood. In the other videos of Old Kathmandu you get a sense of the vibrant crowded street life. In truth, there are many courtyards nearby such as this one - a place sequestered from traffic. Often an oasis of calm, and you don't see them unless you stoop through a low door and look in. Traditionally, each property owner facing such a square was a member of the community and the entire city was organized this way.

Bhaktapur in one of the three ancient kingdoms of Kathmandu Valley. The seven-pagoda temple is among the tallest, this one has survived many strong earthquakes. Any way, from here you get a view of the square below.
