Trekking in Nepal: Lobuche - Gorak Shep - Dingboche with side trips to Kala Patthar and Chukung Ri. [05:52]
October 26 -- 28, 2012. Part Three of our trek in the Mt Everest Region of Nepal. Prior to this part of our trip, we made way over the passes Renjo La and Cho La, arriving in the Solu Khumbu at the village of Lobuche. From there, we left early in the morning to Gorak Shep, and then climbed the small peak of Kala Pathar (5550m; 18209ft) in the afternoon and were treated to stunning views of Pumori, Nuptse, and Mt Everest. (Note the picture of an avalanche-in-progress on Nuptse.) After spending the night at Gorak, we made our way down valley, turned left at Dughla, and made our way to Dingboche. Early the next day, we walked in fresh snow to the village of Chunkung, and then beyond to the slightly lower southern (5404m;17730ft) peak of the two summits of Chukung Ri. From this summit, one gets a view of the larger Chukung Tse (5833m), the immense south faces of Nuptse and Lhotse, and magnificent views of Makalu, Island Peak, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, and Tabuche.

Trek to Mount Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar [03:08]
This is a short video of my trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. It took about 10 days for the round trip passing through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pheriche, Lobuche and Gorak Shep. I couldn't remember exactly which peaks are which but the footage contains shots of Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Lhotse, Ama Dablam. It was an unforgettable trip that I would recommend to anyone, seeing the sunrise over Mount Everest is spectacular (even though it was -37 degrees and my water and suncream froze!). I had an excellent guide called Nawang Sherpa who I would suggest to anyone thinking of trekking in Nepal.
