Nepal - eine Reise am Fuße des Himalaya [11:59]
Als Tibet, das Land am Fuße des Himalaja, sich Anfang der siebziger Jahre wieder öffnete für Besucher, da war die Begeisterung der Reisenden geradezu überschwänglich. Das müsse es sein, das legendäre Shangri La, der paradiesische Ort, an den alles strebe. Wer heute in Kathmandu ankommt, wird eher erschlagen von den Eindrücken, die auf ihn einprasseln. Eine Stadt am Rande des Kollaps, aus allen Nähten brechend, vom Verkehr nahezu erstickt, zur Trecking-Saison überlaufen von Touristen aus aller Welt. Die Nepalesen nehmen es mit Gleichmut. Und der Reisende findet immer noch ein Ziel, das zu den interessantesten Asiens zählt. In unserer Dokumentation werden wir uns natürlich mit den Königsstädten und dem Weltkulturerbe Kathmandu, Bhaktapur und Pagan beschäftigen; mit der Vielzahl ihrer Kunstschätze, die immer noch geballt auf Entdeckung warten. Wir besichtigen eines der größten buddhistischen Heiligtümer -- die Stupa von Boudanath, die vor allem die Exil Tibeter als Zentrum ihres Glaubens hoch halten. Aber wir gehen auch auf eine abenteuerliche Natur-Expedition in den Nationalpark von Chitwan. Dort erkunden wir vom sicheren Rücken eines Elefanten aus den Dschungel und suchen die legendären Panzer-Nashörner, die dirt noch leben..

So this 1st Jan for me was a sweeeet-ish beginning. ("-Ish" considering the fact that I missed a deadline for a college app). But who gets to pump their intestines out across the world's most extreme zipline- 600m above the ground zipping across 1.8 km rope with a speed of 140 km/hr. Sooo ummm suck it up, Punctual people. :P

If you're tired to eat Dal Bhat every day in Nepal, buy a live chicken and eat it, it's really simple. Caution : Not for the faint hearted ! Firstly : catch the chicken in the hen house Secondly : kill it - most difficult part - Thirdly : pluck it in boiling water Fourth : open it and take off its intestines Then it's ready to cook ! Traditionaly they cut it in pieces and cook it in boiling water, every piece of it, including legs and head.

Hindu temple, Dharan, Nepal [01:09]
Dantakali temple is situated in the middle of the beautiful hillock of Vijayapur in Dharan. The holy temple of Dantakali is famous among the Hindus as the place where lie the sacred teeth of the goddess Satidevi, the consort of the great god Mahadev. There is the popular belief that the temple still enshrines the sacred teeth. The Hindu myths and the legends say that after the death of Satidevi, bereaved Mahadev carried the dead body upon his solder and walked incessantly in utterent places as he walked on and the teeth fell in the places where the temple stands at present. The holy book of 'Swasthani Brata Katha' asserts this and gives the name Dantakali literally Danta meaning teeth and 'Kali' one of the various forms of goddess Durga.
