Letting a yak train pass us on the trail. Between Namche Bazar and Phortse, Nepal. In Everest / Sagarmatha National Park. The first animal is a zopkyo, a cross between a cow and a yak. Zopkyos can work in both high and lower altitude conditions, whereas yaks are limited to the higher elevations.

October 19 -- 24, 2012. Part Two of our trek in the Mt Everest Region of Nepal. We made our way from Namche Bazaar up the Bhote Koshi river valley to Thame, and then to Lungdhen were we took an acclimatization day. From there, we climbed the Renjo La pass (5360 m; 17585 ft) and were treated to stunning views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and associated peaks. Then down to Gokyo Lake and village, and the next day a short hike over to Thangnag (Dragnag). On Oct 24, we made early start up the Cho La pass (5368 m; 17611 ft), and then over a small glacier and a steep hike down. We ended the day at Dzonglha, a very small village with a stunning view of the north face of Cholatse (6335 m; 20784 ft).
