Kathmandu Lumbini Tour ( काठमाडौं - लुम्बिनी यात्रा ) [09:27]
Lumbini, the peaceful city located in Rupandehi district of Nepal, is the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism and thus is the most important pilgrimage destination for all schools of Buddhism all around the world. Lord Buddha, the enlightened one, was born here as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in 623 BC, the son of King Suddhodhan of the kingdom of Kapilvastu and his queen Maya Devi. According to the Buddhist literary sources, on the day of Baisakh Purnima, Maya Devi, while on her way to her maternal home, took bath in Puskarini (a pond in the garden of the palace) and immediately felt the onset of her labor pain. She grabbed the branch of a big shady tree nearby for support and gave birth to a beautiful baby prince. It is said that as soon as he was born, the new born prince took seven steps in the holy soil under each of which a lotus flower bloomed immediately. Lumbini garden, where Maya Devi gave birth to Gautam Buddha, remained neglected for a long time but now it has been beautifully maintained, and the region is now listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Keshabtar-Internet-Update [14:41]
This video provides information on internet project in remote village of Keshavtar, Tanahun in Nepal. The project was started by Dr. Mahabir Pun (Nepal Wireless team) and Nem Bahadur Thapa (Fundraiser, UK) with financial aid from Friends of Nepal (Return Peace Corp Volunteers) who wish to leave a legacy for all the years it served in Nepal, on the special occasion of golden jubilee. Through this project, Keshavtar High School has now 14 computers, the VDC sub-health post has 1 and Mother's Group has 4 computers, all with internet. The project now wants to expand the service to other schools and villages in the near future. With this video, I am hoping to generate more interest not just from Keshavtaris but also from neighbouting villages such as Baidi, Chipchipe, Dharampani, Bar Bhanjhyang, because they can also benefit from this project.

A trip to Rasuwa [13:05]
On 16th October Stephen and I (Macartan) traveled to the area of Rasuwa, 10 hours north of Kathmandu, in Nepal. The main objective of the trip was for Stephen to visit most of the children that Umbrella had reintegrated with their families and communities in April of this year, before he returns to live in Ireland after 3 years working with The Umbrella Foundation in Nepal. It also gave me an opportunity to visit the schools in the areas and discover this beautiful area so that Umbrella could send teaching volunteers to the area in the near future. Over the course of our week in Rasuwa we biked and trekked a lot! However, the huge effort was defiantly worth it, as it enabled us to visit these kids in their natural home environments, where they belong. A trip to remember.
