Kathmandu Durbar Square - Nepal [03:05]
The Durbar square is surrounded with spectacular architecture and vividly showcases the skills of the Newar artists and craftsmen over several centuries. The royal palace was originally situated at Dattaraya square and was only later moved to the Durbar square location. The Kathmandu Durbar Square holds the palaces of the Malla and Shah kings who ruled over the city. Along with these palaces, the square also surrounds quadrangles revealing courtyards and temples. The square is presently known as Hanuman Dhoka, a name derived from the statue of Hanuman, the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, near the entrance of the palace. Tibetan Odyssey - Enroute Swayambhunath Stupa (6) [08:22]
Enroute Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal, from Hotel Tibet on June 30, 1999. For this relatively short tour-bus trip and a few more to come, we were given the privilege of filming our passage through the streets of Kathmandu directly out the front window of the tour bus. The resulting video is a hair-raising, white-knuckle snapshot of the fast-paced and chaotic nature of big-city life in Nepal from a driver's perspective.
