Lukla - The World's Most Dangerous Airport? [00:26]
Ever wondered what a true mountain airport looks like? Lukla airport has just a 475m runway, a 12 degree slope and a 700m drop off at the end, making for one hell of a takeoff. The landing is something else all together! This is the most popular start point for the trek to Everest base camp. Sadly it is the site of a deadly crash in 2008 and several flights en route here have resulted in fatalities including Sir Edmund Hilary's wife and daughter. In honour of the New Zealander who passed away in January 2008 and his Everest summit partner, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, it has now been renamed Tenzing-Hillary airport. A fitting tribute.
