Maruni Song of Nepal (पुर्बेली मारुनी नृत्य) [05:02]
This is essentially an original Maruni dance performed with a great pomp and show in a group by the different castes eastern part of Nepal or groups of people such as Magar, Rai, Majhi, Kumal etc. Mainly who live in the Koshi, Michi Zones of eastern part of Nepal. But we can find rarely in other regions also. They are perform this Maruni dance and song on the special occasions of Tihar, and other special festivals by playing typical folk musical instruments, such like as madal, flute, cymbals, binayo, mujura, etc. It is traditionally believed that women should not make this dance. Therefore, only Man Perform this in a disguised form wearing women dress and decorating them as women.

Working on the rice paddy [02:18]
On our way from Pokhara in western Nepal to Chitwan National Park in southern Nepal, we stopped at a rice farm and lent a helping hand. We joined a group of women who were pulling rice stalks to later be replanted in a rice paddy. We didn't know the first thing about growing rice, but we gave it our best shot.

Nepali Teej festival . "Teej" is the fasting festival for women. It takes place in August or early September. The festival is a three-day long celebration that combines sumptuous feasts as well as rigid fasting. Through this religious fasting, hindu women pray for marital bliss, well being of their spouse and children and purification of their own body and soul.

Nepali Hindu Festival in Bhaktapur, August 2007 [07:55]
Nepal has famous monuments, but the best stories always seem to involve the people. In 2007, during the week I spent in KTM at the end of my first trip to Nepal, I randomly chose a certain day to visit Bhaktapur. To my delight, every Monday in August is a festival for women to do puja. There was quite a crowd. Here they wait patiently in line, for the ticket to get into the mandir. I would estimate that there were two to three thousand women there that day. I was told that they pray for the health of their husband on this occasion (and how could any man argue with that rationale to take a day of puja?)
