Visit Nepal, one of the oldest civilization on Earth. Nepal is also voted as one of the top 20 destinations in the world. Historical background Nepal history begins with the Kiratis. Kirat ruled Nepal from 800 BC - 330 AD In around 300 AD, Aryan Licchavis from northern India invaded Kathmandu valley and overthrew Kirat. And so began Licchavi Period (330 AD - 600 AD) Then came Thakuri Period (600 AD - 1100 AD) and Malla Period (1100 AD - 1768 AD) With this concludes the ancient history of Nepal. The modern history of Nepal starts with King Prithivi Narayan Shah who unified the country into present day Nepal in the late 17th century AD And so began Shah Period (1768 AD - 1846 AD) Then Rana came to power through conspiracy. Rana ruled Nepal from (1846 AD - 1950 AD) Shah took back the power from Rana in 1950 AD with the last Shah King booted out in 2006 AD by the people. And so as of 2010, Nepal as a civilization is 5070 years according to Yele Sambat(Kirati calendar). The year 5070 Yele Sambat began on 15 January 2010. The Yele Sambar calendar is named after the first Kirat king Yalambar. It is a proud accomplishment for Nepalese as Nepal is recognized as one of the oldest civilizations on earth.
