2010 Sakya Monlam Prayer Festival, Lumbini, Nepal

In November of each year, Tibetan monks of the Sakya sect gather at one of the four great Buddhist pilgrimage sites, the birthplace of Buddha in Lumbini, Nepal, for the Sakya Monlam Prayer Festival. For ten days, monks and worshipers attend twice daily, four-hour prayer ceremonies to pray for world peace. In 2010, more than 4,000 monks attended.
