Himalayan Trek Ch (6): Kala Patthar
Back in 2006, I fulfilled one of my lifes ambitions, to trek the Himalayas in the Everest region. With 8 hours of video footage, I am presenting brief highlights of this epic journey in a series. Part (6) takes us to the summit of Kala Patthar, with fine views looking across the Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp to ...the big black icy Mt Everest. Good panoramic views wo the South and West were also on offer. The summit's altitude is 5644 m ASL, updated in 2008 as the old measurement of 5545 m was controversial and may have been mistaken for a lower spot elevation on the ridge. This hike was extremely difficult due to thin air and could only be done at a slow pace, even though our small group had superb fitness.
