Tibetan Odyssey – Enroute Hotel Tibet (16)
Enroute Hotel Tibet from central Kathmandu, Nepal, in late June or early July, 1999. Returning on Kanti Path on our way back to our hotel, we pass Rani Pokhari (Queen's Pond). Our Nepalese tour guide explains that this is a man-made rectangular pond with a Shiva temple in the middle. It was built by King Pratap Malla of Kantipur in 1650 in memory of his beloved wife. The causeway is accessible only one day each year during the Tihar (Festival of Light), which is second biggest festival in Nepal.
